Creative Media Works Initiates Green Production Initiatives

Pennington, NJ, July 23, 2008: Creative Media Works, a fully integrated graphics design agency located in Pennington, NJ, is leading the way for graphic design and digital output facilities with a variety of environmentally responsible production initiatives.

According to CMW President Richard Van Fleet, “Relative to most small to medium-sized businesses, graphic design and production business like ours have historically used disproportionate amounts of electrical power, chemicals, paper and packing material. We’ve been working hard over the past few years to find ways to reduce our use of these ‘non-renewables’ without compromising the high-quality work we’re known for. I’m excited to report that we’ve found lots of ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. And, I’m doubly excited to say that our employees contributed to the process.”

The effort began by switching the entire office to Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) in all areas where specific lighting is not required for color matching. These ENERGY STAR-qualified CFLs use up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent light bulbs, and last up to 10 times longer. The company has also switched completely to programmable thermostats and replaced (redesigned, overhauled) the duct system to maximize HVAC efficiency. And, every employee participates diligently in ongoing, company-wide paper, glass and plastic recycling initiatives.

The environmental consciousness continues even after the company’s work leaves the door, as CMW has switched from plastic bubble wrap and foam to recyclable paper-based corrugated packing material. Whenever possible, courier deliveries are strategically scheduled to minimize fuel usage and the company uses more efficient commercial carriers on non-rush shipments.

Even production materials are carefully chosen to reduce CMWs “environmental footprint” including:

Maranello 3620 paper—the company’s main production media—contains recycled material and produces a finished product that is itself, recyclable.
PP5 polypropylene, whose manufacture requires little energy, produces no harmful substances and generates water and CO2 when disposed of by incineration.
Thermal lamination which requires no “release liner”—normally a throwaway item in conventional lamination processes.
